Getting your Power Point presentation ready
- read over your rubric
- if you are missing a section, add it to your Power Point (the sections that have been highlighted were included - anything not highlighted needs to be added)
- do a spell check
- change all sentences to bullet point form
- limit the bullet points to no more than 8 - 10 per slide
- add pictures to each slide
- add a Preview Slide
- remove "The End" slides
- use the Transition tab to add transitions to each slide - these will add interest to the overall look when moving from one slide to another *** use only ONE transition per slide***
- use the Transition tab to add timed advances - test how long it would take to read the slide, then adjust the seconds for each slide OR set the advance slide time for the same timing for all slides (10 - 15 seconds per slide)
- use the Slide Show tab to rehearse your timings and see if your presentation works the way you want it to

Genius Hour Presentations
Each of you has signed up for a presentation day - check the charts on the side board to make sure you know when your day is.
It is your responsibility to make sure you are ready to present on the day you signed up for
Follow these steps to make sure you have a high quality presentation.
1) Hook - think of something interesting to get our attention (a funny fact, interesting story, a personal connection etc)
2) Introduction - introduce yourself (by name and your topic)
3) Preview - let us know what you are going to talk about and in what order - this is like a Table of Contents for your presentation; use transition words ...."First I'm going to tell you about ...."
4) The body of your presentation
- in the same order that you mentioned in your preview, tell us the information you have found
- background research - this should include your three Inquiry Questions
- why you chose your topic
- what you did or made
- success you had
- problems you had and how you dealt with them
- what you have learned from doing this project
5) Conclusion
Review what you have told us - just briefly
What are you going to do with what you have learned?
Did you enjoy this project?
Are you going to peruse your Genius Hour idea?
Could this Genius Hour idea turn into a future career?
How has Genius Hour been relevant to you?
How could you have made your Genius Hour experience more useful or more fun?
6) At the very end:
Ask if there are any questions
Thank us for listening
Other things to think about
- you need to show us something
- if you have created a poster - make sure you know how you are going to hang it up
- if you have created a PowerPoint - have you emailed it to me? Even better, have it saved on a flash drive.
- if you have created a video, have it saved on a flash drive so that you can play it when you present
- your presentation should be 3 - 5 minutes
- have your presentation material written put on cue cards
DO NOT READ FROM YOUR CUE CARDS!!!!!
That is not a presentation.
Cue Cards are to help you remember key ideas and details - you should have your information you want to present, MEMORISED!
