In our daily Number Talks, we are learning about Powers of 10 and how they work to multiply both whole and decimal numbers.
Powers of 10 are short form ways to write 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 10,000,100,000,etc. When multiplying a power of 10 by a whole number you just add the same number of zeros as in the power. I've add some links to YouTube videos that may help you understand how these multiplication problems work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJdCw2fK-Og https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxLQSRk8KbY You've got your Math Reference Book at home with you this weekend. Try to solve the multiplication problems in your book. You can hold off on the decimal problems-as we will tackle those next week.

For our first unit in grade 7, we will be reviewing whole numbers from 1- 1, 000, 000.
Students have already completed a Diagnostic Test for this unit, which will allow me to see where there are gaps in their understanding of whole numbers to 1, 000,000. We will be using a resource called Gap Closing, Unit 3 - Representing and Renaming Whole Numbers. This resource was written by the Ministry of Education. If you'd like to look at the resource, I've attached a link to the student book. http://www.edugains.ca/resourcesMath/CE/LessonsSupports/GapClosing/NumberSense_Junior-Int/GCU3_SB_RepresentingandRenamingWholeNumbers.pdf |
